Dear ASB Community,
In observance of the profound loss our beloved HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, we have received the following directives from the Office of Private Education Commission, sent through the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT): -
- Schools are to lower their flags half staff for the period of 30 days from October 14th, 2016 onwards.
- Schools are to refrain from celebrations and festive activities for the period of 30 days or longer from October 14th, 2016 onwards.
- Schools may observe the full mourning period up to one year.
As we are mourning the loss of our beloved HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, with profound sadness and out of deepest respect to his Majesty, we will be cancelling some of our school activities and re-scheduling others.
Here’s a summary of the status of our upcoming school events:
First Week of School after the Fall Break
Though it is a national holiday, classes will resume as scheduled on Monday, October 24th, 2016, after the fall break. The ASB community will observe a moment of silence during the morning assembly, on the day, in remembrance of HM King Bhumibol of Thailand. In the mourning period, students are still required to wear their regular school uniforms to school; however, they may opt to place a black ribbon (available at school) on their uniform shirt sleeves to show respect.
ASB English Challenge National Competition
On October 24 – 27, 2016, ASB will host student finalists (for the ASB English Challenge National Competition) from public schools throughout Thailand, on both campuses, to interact and learn English with our students. The teachers who accompany these students will be trained in additional English learning strategies by ASB teachers. However, the final round of the competition, which is originally scheduled on October 28th, has been postponed until further notice.
Halloween celebrations on Monday, October 31st, 2016 have been cancelled for both campuses. Students are asked to wear regular school uniforms on the day.
Loy Krathong Festivities
On Monday, November 14th, 2016, Loy Krathong activities will be carried out as scheduled, but will be limited to in-class Krathong making activities only.
Friday, November 18th, 2016 is now a regular school day. The Sukhumvit Fair is postponed to Saturday, February 4th, 2017. The fair’s organizing committee will be updating sponsors on this change. In preparation for the fair, Friday, February 3rd, 2017 will be a student holiday and a Teacher's PA Day.
American Thanksgiving Potluck
The American Thanksgiving Potluck is an internal event and remains as scheduled on November 24th, 2016. Parents may bring food and snacks to share with the community during the regular school lunch hours.
Due to the organization of the Sukhumvit Fair in February 2017, school musicals are cancelled for this academic year.
We will continue to update parents on a regular basis, on any additional directives received from the Office of Private Education Commission, regarding the observance of this profound loss. Thank you for your kind understanding and respect for the Thai nation’s sentiments during these difficult times.
