World Scholar’s Cup (March 19 – 20, 2018)

On March 19-20th, students from the Green Valley campus participated in the Regional Round of the World Scholar’s Cup. The idea behind the World Scholar’s Cup was to create something different than the traditional academic competitions and conferences students were used to (such as Model United Nations or Tournament of the Minds). Instead it serves as a celebration of the joy of learning and as an enrichment opportunity to motivate students not just to demonstrate their existing strengths but to discover new ones as well.

Each World Scholar's Cup Regional Round consists of four main events: the Scholar's Challenge, Collaborative Writing, The Team Debate, and the Scholar's Bowl. The four main events are based around a curriculum consisting of six subjects that relate to an overall larger theme. The six subjects of the curriculum are science, literature, arts and music, special area, history and social students. This year’s theme was an Entangled world and the topics ranged from black markets to the science of memory and from the history of diplomacy to human relationships.

Overall the students performed well taking home 28 silver medals and 10 gold medals. All 7 teams reached the point level to receive invitation letter to compete in the global round in June. We are very proud of their achievements and how they represented ASB. A list of the students that participated, as well as their respective awards, is listed below.
