School Board of Directors

The American School of Bangkok’s Foundation School Board of Directors was established in the academic year 2009-2010. Reputable and highly experienced individuals who accepted Board member positions include: Mr. David B. Carden, the Managing Director of FedEx Express in Thailand & Indochina, and the President of the American Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Brian K. Housh, the Managing Director of English Solutions; Mr. James Fuss, the General Manager of Asia City Media Group; and M.L. Panadda Diskul, parent of our alumni Varadis Diskul.

MEET OUR DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS

DAVID B. CARDEN
David Carden is the Managing Director of Thailand and Indochina District for FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company. Based in Thailand, David has been in his current role since September 1st, 2006. His management responsibilities include a staff of over 700 employees. He oversees corporate strategic development and management in this District, which includes all operations in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, which is a part of FedEx Asia Pacific Division.

David joined FedEx in 1986 as a Station Manager. He has served in various operational and engineering positions in New York, Seattle and Los Angeles in the United States, before being appointed to his first Managing Director Role in Seattle, Washington, in 1995. He has served as Managing Director in Seattle, Los Angeles, and most recently Seoul, South Korea in 2003. David is a four-time recipient of the Five Star Award, which is FedEx’s most prestigious award in recognition of superior performance, leadership, vision and creativity, receiving this award in 1998, 2001, 2006 and 2008.
David is a graduate of California State University Fullerton, with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Administration. David currently serves as President of the Conference of Asia Pacific Express Carriers (CAPEC) in Thailand, and has served as its Treasurer and Vice President previously. He has been an active member of AMCHAM since 2003, serving as Customs Committee Chair in 2006, as a member of the Board of Governors in 2007 and as Vice President of AMCHAM in 2008. David is currently serving as President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand for 2009 and serves as President of the AMCHAM Thailand Charitable Foundation. David also serves as a member of the Board of Trade in Thailand (BOT) for 2009 and 2010 calendar years.
David continues to be involved with various charitable organizations including, Orbis-Flying Eye Hospital, United Way, The Teacher Foundation, Safe Kids, AMCHAM Adopt-a-School Foundation, AMCHAM Scholarship Foundation, and Junior Achievement.
 
BRIAN K. HOUSH
Graduating from Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, and subsequently completing a JD/MBA, Brian K. Housh has continuously worked with great leaders. For over ten years, he has consulted senior and junior level management, specializing in professional communications and leadership development. Brian currently sits on three Boards – the AMCHAM Thailand Charitable Foundation, Junior Achievement Thailand and the American School of Bangkok – reflecting his comprehensive interests in professional, personal and academic education. His most recent endeavors include executing results-oriented executive management coaching programs for companies such as Amadeus and Pfizer, designing successful approaches to support the career and graduate study goals of individuals working with Thailand’s Ministry of Education and other organizations, and developing interactive, customized e-learning solutions in collaboration with Microsoft.

Brian also owns and actively manages a consulting firm, teaches graduate students in many fields, trains managers and facilitators, and develops curricula for online learning, corporate education & test prep programs. Canon, Dow Corning, FedEx and Western Digital are among the organizations that he has formed close relationships; notably, these interactions go beyond strategy to evaluate and enhance corporate culture and community connectedness. Brian brings an intuitive, integrative approach to the engagement that raises awareness among stakeholders and motivates positive changes.

JAMES FUSS
Mr. James Fuss is a media consultant and entrepreneur and co-founder of Med Tour Thai a company focused on medical tourism in Thailand. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of Business Development for the Nation Multimedia Group (Thailand), publisher of the daily newspapers The Nation, Krungthep Turakij and Kom Chad Leuk as well as a 24-hour television news station, websites, magazines and book publishing. Previously, Mr. Fuss was based in Malaysia as Asian Regional Business Manager for Dow Jones & Company, responsible for The Asian Wall Street Journal and Far Eastern Economic Review. He was also the founding publisher of Construction & Building a trade magazine focused on Asian infrastructure development. Before coming to Asia in 1995, Mr. Fuss was with Reed Elsevier Group in the US where he managed several trade publications including Design News and Global Design News, the world's largest circulation magazine for mechanical engineers. Currently, Mr. James Fuss is the General Manager of Asia City Media Group.
 
M.L. PANADDA DISKUL

M.L.Panadda Diskul is the son of M.R. Sangkadis Diskul and Khun Mantana Diskul na Ayutthaya. His father, M.R. Sangkadis Diskul, was the former Ambassador of Thailand to many countries, and because of this vocation, M.L. Panadda Diskul received the opportunity to study abroad.

M.L. Panadda completed his secondary education from Sathit Prasarnmit School and went to King’s Australia to complete his Bachelors’ degree in Science, and later, a Master’s degree in International Relations from Brigham Young University, USA. He also attended special courses relating to Japanese History and International Relations in Sophia University. In Thailand, M.L. Panadda attended special senior officer training courses at the Damrong Rajanupab Academy and at the Ministry of Interior and Kasetsart University.

M.L. Panadda has served in many honorable positions. His previous positions include the Head of the Office of the Secretary of the Minister of Interior; the Vice Governor of Samut Sakhon; the Vice Governor of Pathum Thani; the Vice Governor of Buri Ram; and as the Adviser on Security Affairs and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior. Currently, M.L. Panadda is the Governor of Nakhon Pathom.

M.L.Panadda has received many Royal Decorations in his years of service. Some of these include the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand; the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant; the Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand; the Junior Companion of the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao (as an heir to his great- grandfather, H.R.H. Prince Damrong Rajanupab).

M.L. Panadda’s is also appointed by the Department of Fine Arts as the Chairman of the Prince Damrong Rajanupab Museum & Library. On a lighter note, his hobbies are reading and leading special tours at Varadis Palace Museum & Library. He is also a lecturer at several prestigious universities and schools in Thailand. M.L. Panadda is married to Khun Amporn Diskul na Ayudhaya. They have a son, Varadis Diskul na Ayudhaya, who is ASB’s alumni.
 
THE ASB INAUGURAL SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS' MEETING (SEPTEMBER 9, 2009)

The inaugural ASB School Board of Directors’ meeting was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2009 at Bangna Campus. Our honorable Board members attended a lunch with the ASB Management Team and later toured the campus. After that, they attended a meeting with the ASB Management Team. During this meeting, the Board members were given an overview and other pertinent information about the school.
The American School of Bangkok is proud to have distinguished professionals on the School Board who will provide assistance in many school-related matters.

THE ASB SECOND SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS' MEETING
(MARCH 16, 2010)

The second ASB School Board of Directors’ meeting was held on Tuesday, March 16th 2010 at the JW Marriott Hotel. Attendees included: Honorable Board members Mr. David B. Carden (the Managing Director of FedEx Thailand & Indochina), Mr. Brian K. Housh (the Managing Director of English Solutions), and Mr. James Fuss (the General Manager, Asia City Media Group); ASB Management Team members Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul (Director), Mr. John McGrath (Sukhumvit Principal), Dr. Bonnie Larson-Knight (Bangna Principal), Mrs. Nisanart Tavedikul (School Developer), Mr. Christopher Chongstitvathana (Finance Director), Mr. Paul Marks (Communications Director), Mr. Tom Yates (Admissions Director), and Mrs. Veena Narula (Executive Secretary); and invited guests Ms. Lalita Tavedikul (the Managing Director of Superstar Academy) and Mr. Panupong Vorasetakarnkij (the President of Superstar Academy).

Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul welcomed everyone to the meeting and updated Board members on recent ASB achievements and successes in academics, sports, and performing arts. Each principal continued with their campus updates, spoke in length about continued WASC implementation and ‘focus on student learning’. Other discussions at the meeting included Sukhumvit Fair 2010 event report, admissions and marketing updates, and future direction for the school. Board members and invited guests were also provided with other pertinent information about the school and asked for a feedback on the school wide action plan.

The American School of Bangkok is proud to have distinguished professionals on the School Board who provide input and assistance in many school-related matters.
ASB BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING (SEPTEMBER 14, 2010)

The first ASB School Board of Directors’ meeting for the academic year 2010-2011 was held on Tuesday, September 14th 2010 at ASB Sukhumvit Campus. Attendees included: Mr. David B. Carden (the Managing Director of FedEx Thailand & Indochina) ; Mr. James Fuss (the General Manager, Asia City Media Group); Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul (ASB Director); Dr. Bonnie Larson-Knight (Bangna Principal); Mr. John McGrath (Sukhumvit Principal); Mrs. Nisanart Tavedikul (School Developer); Mr. Christopher Chongstitvathana (Finance Director); Mr. Paul Marks (Communications Director); Mr. Tom Yates (Admissions Director); and Mrs. Veena Narula (Executive Secretary).

Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul welcomed everyone to the meeting and updated Board members on recent ASB facilities development at each campus. Each principal continued with their campus updates, spoke in length about the school’s collective commitment towards achieving WASC and ONESQA recommendations and the ‘focus on student learning’. Other discussions at the meeting included admissions and marketing updates, and future direction for the school. The meeting ended with ASB Director’s invitation to Board members to attend the school’s upcoming Thanksgiving celebration on Saturday, November 6th 2010.

After the meeting, the Board members toured the new facilities. They were very impressed with our recent developments and the progress in our educational program.

ASB BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING (APRIL 7, 2011)
The second ASB School Board of Directors’ meeting for the academic year 2010-2011 was held on Thursday, April 7th 2011 at ASB Sukhumvit Campus. Attendees included: Mr. David B. Carden (the Managing Director of FedEx Thailand & Indochina); Mr. Brian Housh (Managing Director, English Solutions); Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul (ASB Director); Dr. Bonnie Larson-Knight (Bangna Principal); Mr. John McGrath (Sukhumvit Principal); Mr. Christopher Chongstitvathana (Finance Director); Mr. Paul Marks (Communications Director); Mr. Tom Yates (Admissions Director); Ms. Patcharalak Tavedikul (Kindergarten Supervisor); and Mrs. Veena Narula (Executive Secretary).
Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul welcomed everyone to the meeting and updated Board members on recent ASB activities. She announced the appointment of Dr. Bonnie Larson-Knight as the new Superintendent for the next academic year 2011-2012. Mrs. Lakhana also introduced Ms. Patcharalak Tavedikul as the new Kindergarten Supervisor. Each principal continued with their campus updates, spoke in length about the school’s collaboration towards school improvement and the ‘focus on student learning’. Other discussions at the meeting included admissions and marketing updates, and future direction for the school. Finally, Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul expressed her appreciation to everyone for their support and contribution towards the success of the ASB charity gala event. She also thanked FEDEX for sponsoring the event, and presented a special recognition to Mr. David Carden. After the meeting, the Board members attended the science inquiry conferences which were currently taking place on campus.

The first ASB School Board of Directors’ meeting for the academic year 2011-2012 was held on Tuesday, September 20th 2011 at ASB Sukhumvit Campus. Attendees included: Mr. Brian K. Housh (the Managing Director of English Solutions); Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul (ASB Director); Dr. Bonnie Larson-Knight (ASB Superintendent); Mr. John McGrath (Sukhumvit Principal); Mr. Simon Faulkner (Bangna Principal); Mr. Paul Marks (Communications Director); Mr. Tom Yates (Admissions Director); Ms. Patcharalak Tavedikul (Kindergarten Supervisor) and Mrs. Veena Narula (Executive Secretary).
Mrs. Lakhana Tavedikul welcomed everyone to the meeting. Board members had the opportunity to view the recent Parent Orientation VDO presentation. Dr. Bonnie Larson-Knight explained the process of WASC accreditation, and provided an in-house training on ‘Focus on Learning’. Each principal continued with their campus updates, spoke in length about the school’s collective commitment towards achieving WASC and ONESQA recommendations and the ‘focus on student learning’. Ms. Patcharalak Tavedikul updated Board members on recent ASB facilities development at the Nursery and Kindergarten section. Other discussions at the meeting included admissions and marketing updates, and an overview and future direction for the school. The meeting ended with ASB Director’s invitation to Board members to attend the school’s upcoming Sukhumvit Fair 2011 on Saturday, November 19th 2011.
