The Science Inquiry Conferences were held at on Tuesday, March 1st 2011 at ASB Bangna Campus and on Thursday, April 7th 2011 at ASB Sukhumvit Campus. The purpose of the conferences wereto model an authentic scientific conference in which student scientists present to their peers, question and discuss their research data. Middle and high school students participated as "scientific colleagues" using their projects as their focus. They compared and contrasted data and shared their experiences with their friends at alternative campuses. Additionally, the students experienced the working relationships shared by scientists globally. The event was indeed a productive one.
In addition to this, the elementary students at ASB Bangna Campus hosted a special science fair on the same day. There were many interesting projects on display. Students researched on a scientific topic of interest to them, and shared their creations and discoveries with the entire campus. The science fair provided an excellent opportunity for students to use the scientific method in order to develop an understanding of controls and variables; take an open and creative approach to problem solving; sharpen their writing skills; gain skills in research; learn that a successful outcome is based not on personal opinion but on scientific fact; develop time management skills; and develop public speaking skills as they presented projects to their classmates and members of the ASB community.
